W2K3 and RH3.0 integration on Systems insight manager

Who has experience with the itegration of W2K3 and RH3.0 on SIM.
When I follow the stand procedures it doesn't work.
Both the OS are running on IA64.

Re: W2K3 and RH3.0 integration on Systems insight manager

Sorry, the only supported OS on IA64 is HP-UX. WS03 and RHEL3 are IA32 only.

(The reason is that in the WS03 and RHEL3 worlds that IA64 servers will be in the minority for the foreseeable future and that IA32 servers will be in ready supply. Since hpSIM doesn't require the horsepower of a 64-bit system and we didn't expect customers to use precious parts of their IA64 system for running something mundane like a systems manager, IA64 support was not a priority. On the other hand, HP-UX--which we support both for IA64 and PA-RISC--is an environment where the administration runs exclusively in HP-UX [which is 64-bit only] so we didn't want to create the situation where in order to manage an HP-UX box you needed to put in an IA32 system which implies that you would be running Linux or Windows to manage an HP-UX system...not a good option. WS03 and RHEL3 on IA64 have not been crossed out as "never" in the support list, but if you [and others are welcome to chime in] have clear and compelling reasons [come on, now, it's going to have be something more than "IA32 is inferior" or "it'd be cool"] why you need hpSIM on IA64 WS03 and/or RHEL3, and why IA32 is not an option for you, we would like to hear them. [Remember, we are talking about hosting the hpSIM application in the environment; without hpSIM hosted there, you will still be able to manage that environment] However, keep in mind that for a product that is included with every ProLiant and Integrity server that we sell, almost doubling the QA matrix is a non-trivial expense to us and could significantly impact the time that it takes to bring new versions to you.)

David,

You're giving our personal opion. I need technical answers and not commercial.
HPUX, RH30, W3K are running and are supported on IA64 on a rx8620. I have such a server in the office.

I just want to integrate this server in our current SIM environment.

Luk:

You are correct. WS03, RHEL3 and HP-UX are all supported OS types for the rx series. However, as I stated before, you cannot host hpSIM on anything but HP-UX on IA-64.

No, my response was neither a commercial or a personal opinion. It was a sincere explanation of why we decided not to port the hpSIM application to WS03 or RHEL3 on IA-64.

Please note that while you cannot host the hpSIM application on WS03/IA64 or RHEL/IA64, those systems can be managed by an hpSIM hosted somewhere else.
