I struggle to update WBEM providers from 9.2.0.0. to 9.3.0.0 on two different servers (ML150-G5 / ML350-G6), both are running W2008R2 and SMH 7.2.0.14.
cp017534 says
"The software is installed but is not up to date. Current Version: 9.2.0.0"
but thereafter the update fails with error
"The installation procedure did not complete successfully. An error occurred during the setup process. You may look at the setup log file for more details if desired."
According to the event log it's a MSI error 1603 (ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE - Fatal error during installation).
The installer is leaving me with none working WBEM at all (SMH shows no "data source").
Before I tried to update, v9.2.0.0 was running without any hazzle. Now I can't event get 9.2.0.0 running again, the installer fails there too...
Any ideas?
Best,
Daniel

Re: WBEM 9.3.0.0 installation issues
If I extract the msi and and run it with log option:
Action start 12:06:28: CheckServerAndDependency.
CustomAction CheckServerAndDependency returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
Action ended 12:06:29: CheckServerAndDependency. Return value 3.
Action ended 12:06:29: INSTALL. Return value 3.
Action ended 12:06:29: ExecuteAction. Return value 3.
Action ended 12:06:29: INSTALL. Return value 3.

Re: WBEM 9.3.0.0 installation issues
And if I try to go back to 9.0.0.0 or 9.2.0.0, which did run before:
Action start 12:13:29: CompileBaseMOFS.
CustomAction CompileBaseMOFS returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
Action ended 12:13:30: CompileBaseMOFS. Return value 3.
Action ended 12:13:30: INSTALL. Return value 3.
Action ended 12:13:30: ExecuteAction. Return value 3.
Action ended 12:13:30: INSTALL. Return value 3.
So I ended up with no WBEM at all... :(

SolutionProblem finally solved:
I did extract the setup file and installed the included msi using the "msiexec /lvx log.txt" switch which gave me more detailed informations about the error.
The entry "CompileBaseMOFS" and the fact that I could not install older versions that were previously working told me that somethin in the environment was wrong or has been changed since the last successfull WBEM update. CompileBaseMOFs has something to do with WMI and depends on the Windows Management Framework. That put me in the right way:
I remembered that a view month ago a Microsoft WMF3.0 update (KB2506146) has been revoked from Windows Update due to incompatibilty issues with MS Exchange 2010. MS recommended to uninstall this update and therefore it has been uninstalled on our servers too.
I reinstalled WMF 3.0 and now I was able to install WBEM again. Thereafter I uninstalled WMF 3.0 and I will never apply any WBEM update again ;)
PS: It seems that WBEM 9.2.0.0 is the last version that's compatible to the Proliant 100 series (ML 150 G5). v9.3.0.0 fails due to "serverdependency checks" (log entry). I'm fine with 9.2.0.0 ;)

Re: WBEM 9.3.0.0 installation issues
I was able to install wbem by installing the following software first:
cp02036, cp024845 cp025786, cp026226, cp026785, cp026878, cp026989, cp027014, cp027261, cp027682, cp027895. The error is really missing the ilo channel driver & other ilo drivers. Install these components, and you will be fine.
