What triggers the Server Resets Query

We have a DL380, dual CPU, Full Fan redundancy running VMWare ESX 2.5. plus patches, HP Agents 7.20.
We lost a fan, HPSIM reports we've lost Fan Redundancy. That's okay.
The OS then triggers a Server shutdown.
I would have though that having the redundant fan kit would ensure the Server stayed up.

So, the questions.
Is it the HP Agents that prompt the OS to shut down?
Should the Server shutdown if a single fan is lost when the Fan Redundancy kit is installed?

Depending on the above, is this potentially a bug in the 7.20 HP Agents for ESX 2.5?

It's the health driver; the agents just report. The behavior is set in ASR in RBSU.

Re: What triggers the Server Resets Query

David,
Thanks, is the Health Driver part of the HP Agents installation or is it part of the VMWare ESX installation?

My feeling here is that the Health Driver has shut the Server down unnecessarily. I'd like to know who to report the issue to for fixing.

Re: What triggers the Server Resets Query

I believe I may have misinterpreted the redundancy aspect. Looking at some of the Server Diagrams, the two fans listed as Nos 5 & 6 in my Server Guide are both listed as Primary fans.
It was one of these that failed rather than one of the fans listed as redundant or primary/shared.
My guess is that the Health Driver correctly reported this as a Critical Failure.

I'm still a bit curious as the Thermal degradation Action is Shutdown, but the Server rebooted.
