Hi All!
I plan to wait until the bugs are worked out in the next minor rev. and perhaps install a fresh copy of HPSIM 5.2 on a test server to see if the new version can be justified.
I was curious which of the new features you have found useful in 5.2?
-The users and authorization improvements sounds great with several cooks in the kitchen.
-Simple and FQDN's in the exclusion list sounds great.
-"new Manage Communications feature enables you to troubleshoot communication problems between the CMS and the managed systems"
This sounds great as well, if only it could fix everything without a reboot :)
Is there any additional OS information collected via WMI? Would be nice to have more data on the VM guests OS's.
Thanks Everyone,
Dana

Solution
My primary reason for upgrading was to be prepared for the new WBEM based management agents (which are not out yet).
I have had nothing but problems since the upgrade - you are wise to wait.
I was having problems adding a cluster behind a FW to SIM and was hoping the Manage Communication option would help. But since the cluster is not in SIM (my problem) that feature does little good for me. They should have made it so you can test communications to a device not yet in SIM.
Basically, I am kicking myself for upgrading right away.

Re: When new features have people found useful?
Hi Nelson,
Sorry to hear the problems you ran into. Hopefully HP will have a follow up minor rev or a workaround/fix out for the issues soon.
It's funny while browsing google today for some information I found the following PDFs:
Managing HP servers through firewalls with HP Systems Insight Manager (technology brief)
The link is:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00210041/c00210041.pdf
Page 5 and up went over the protocols that are used and would need to be opened on the firewall.
There is another very similar document available called "Managing your HP servers through firewalls with HP SIM 5.x"
The link is:
http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/misc/hpsim-helpfiles/ManagingHPServers-withHPSIM.pdf
The "Understanding HP SIM Security.pdf" on the hp site, sorry no link, goes over what ports the various components use.
You may be able to determine what ports you need open to manage your cluster through the firewall.
See ya,
Dana
