Which agents to use with a tape library
We recently experienced an issue where out Backup Administrator had disabled some of the Insight Agents on one of our backup servers to prevent issues when backing up large amounts of data to tape. We later experienced a failure with some harddrives and we didn't receive any alerts. The admin went into Control Panel > HP Management Agents and moved following services to Inactive
NIC Information
Storage Remote Alerter
Server Remote Alerter
With these disabled we failed to get alerts on some harddrives that experience an issue. When a second drive failed in a RAID 5 we lost a partition.
We are now trying to balance the need for these agents to be running so that we can monitor failed hardware against performance/failures when backing up large amounts of data to our tape libraries.
I've included the PDF the admin used to determine which agents needed to be inactive
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
