Windows 2000 event log notification?
Can I get Windows 2000/2003 event log notifications?
In other words, if there is a critical event in the Windows Event logs (as opposed to SIMs events) can I get notification, and/or view these logs in SIM?
We have SIM 4.1 sp1
Thanks.
Nick

Re: Windows 2000 event log notification?
Hi Nick,
The short answer is no. There are utilities in the Windows 2000 Resource Kit which allow you to turn event log entries into SNMP traps, but they require configuration for each specific event id. Therefore, they are only useful if you are only interested in getting notified for specific events.
I've explored this as well and come to the conclusion that I need another tool to handle the envent logs.

Re: Windows 2000 event log notification?
Thanks Steve,
That's what I was afraid of.
We are currently using Big Brother on a Linux box. Hoepfully, we will move away from that and use Quest.com Big Brother for Windows for our OS Event Management.
Now to get SIM to make a sound on the web interface.
