windows script to change snmp string

Is is possible to script a snmp get string change for a mass amount of intel servers?

Re: windows script to change snmp string

I'm not sure just what you mean by "snmp get string" but we've done snmp settings on a mass basis in three separate ways with varying involvement from SIM.

I did that one a few years ago and would have to dig to find it ;-).

With SIM, you can use the Replicate Settings to put updated SNMP settings from one sample system to multiple targets.

More recently, we have set up a script in a group policy object in Windows that automatically sets the SNMP configuration on all servers. That has the advantage of taking effect immediately whenever a new server is added to the network.

So you can actually add a new snmp get string to a windows server? Thats what I am looking for. When you say group policy you are using OVOW? We are using SIM on all these INTEL servers.

Re: windows script to change snmp string

SIM is great for replicating exiting settings from one server to another, but I don't think it can report existing settings. You can use the attached script to do so. All of the updates are commented out. If you do need to update settings, you actually have to delete the current settings first. Since I had to "clean up" an existing script, I apologize if there are any typos or errors.

Hope this helps.

Awesome thanks..I will let you know how this turns out. We are actually test trialing SMARTS to see how it does on our network and we need to be able to give them a temporary string for obvious security reasons.
