Windows XP SP2 clients appear as UNKNOWN in SIM 5

My Windows 200 desktop clients appear normal in HP Systems Insight Manager 5.0 (the system hardware is identified), but my Windows XP SP2 clients appear as "UNKNOWN". I am using SNMP t communicate with them. Is there some client software or agent that needs to be installed for HPSIM to identify the hardware? The same desktop make and models with Windows 2000 Pro installed are identified just fine.

You will have to install the DMI agents available for the specific model of the desktops. One other alternative is that you can make use of the WBEM/WMI protocol to manage the XP machines. At least for me WBEM/WMI gives good and better info. as far as Windows XP nodes are concerned.

No, no, no! DMI is deprecated and should not be used. Its presence today in HP SIM is only and specfically for use with HP-UX systems for which DMI has not been replaced with WBEM.

The old Compaq DeskPro agents that communicated via either DMI or SNMP are obsolete and are no longer maintained.

HP SIM has some visibility to client systems, but the prescribed solution is HP Client Manager, a FREE download from http://www.hp.com/go/easydeploy. From that same link the HP Client Connector for HP SIM can be downloaded to link HP Client Manager to HP SIM.
