WinMgmt.exe and HPDiags.exe pin processor at 100%!

I just upgraded the HP Online Diagnostics on two DL580s to the latest version (6.3.1.887) because a security hole had been found in the previous version. Immediately after the upgrade, on both processors, the WinMgmt.exe and HPDiags.exe processes went out of control and pinned the processor.

I stopped both services and now have the Windows Management Instrumentation service running alone, which is fine, but if I start up the HP Diagnostics service, both processes go nuts.

Has anyone else seen this or do they have any information on it?

Thanks,
- Steve

Steve,
What version of Windows?
I've installed this update on a couple of Servers but not seen the behaviour you're reporting. Both were W2003, 1 x DL380 G3, 1 x DL380 G4.
I wonder if it is OS or Hardware model related.

Hi,

These are W2K SP2 (they really should be upgraded but I'll probably never get approval). And I did install it on several other servers without seeing a problem.

It's probably either an SP2 issue or a DL580 issue...

Re: WinMgmt.exe and HPDiags.exe pin processor at 100%!

We have 6 DL380 W2K SP4 servers and only our Exchange server has displayed this behaviour. It has 2 instances of HpDiags.exe running. When I stopped the service, the low ussage instance stopped running and I was unable to stop the the one using 100% of one processor. For now, I restarted in safe mode and moved the application to another folder. As a side note, the server lost its video driver settings at the same time. Any other information about this issue would be helpful. Since all of our servers have the exact same operating systems, could it be a virus or trojan that is causing this behaviour?

I've updated a number of Servers without seeing this issue.
Our Exchange Server is not one of them and that is a DL580 running W2003.
I'm a bit reluctant to update this until this issue becomes a bit clearer.
We've not got any W2K SP2 Servers, they're all either SP3 or SP4.
