You do not have a Java Runtime Environment installed
Hello,
I just installed HP Systems Insight Manager 4.0 to a Windows 2000 Server with SP3. I connected to the server via terminal services and ran the hp icon. I then installed the version of JRE that came with HP Systems Insight Manager (j2re-1_4_1_04-windows-i586-i.exe)
Then everything went fine. I could logon to the server and add and manage servers, add users, etc... I then run an auto-discovery on several subnets.
After the discovery was done I could no longer login to the server because the server would not detect that I had JRE installed. I tried rebooting the server but had the same issue.
I installed JRE (j2re-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe) onto my PC which is running Windows XP and connected to the initial web logon screen on the hp insight server. The web page on the server didn't detect that my PC was running JRE either. I can go to www.java.com and run java apps so I know java is working on my pc.
For some reason the hp insight manager server can't detect java any longer.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Dana Swanson

Re: You do not have a Java Runtime Environment installed
From your PC, you say you have JRE 1_4_2_04 installed, I've got the same.
If you're running IE, go to the Tools/Internet Options/Advanced Tag and check that you do NOT have the "Use Java v2..." box checked. If there's no such box then that's okay. It's usually under a Sun Java heading. Can't remember the precise details as I no longer have it. This allows the App to chose the JRE, rather than the Broser chosing it.
If that doesn't work try firing up the JRE (from the Console Panel) and clearing the Caches.
If that doesn't work, go to the Add / Remove programs and remove all JRE's and let SIM reinstall the JRE it wants.

Many Thanks Ron,
I'll give this a shot.
