A100/H100/V100 GPU on DL380

Are the GPUs in the title no longer supported on the Proliant DL380 Gen10?.

If so, what is the reason?

Re: A100/H100/V100 GPU on DL380

It is possible that certain GPUs are no longer supported on the Proliant DL380 Gen10 due to various reasons such as compatibility issues, changes in hardware or software requirements, or the discontinuation of the GPU model by the manufacturer. It is recommended to check the official documentation or contact the manufacturer for more information on supported GPUs for the Proliant DL380 Gen10.

The NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU is our ninth-generation data center GPU designed to deliver an order-of-magnitude performance leap for large-scale AI and HPC over the prior-generation NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPU.

Hello,

According to the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Server's QuickSpecs, the accelerators HPE NVIDIA A100 40GB GPU , HPE NVIDIA Tesla V100 PCIe 32GB Module, and HPE NVIDIA Tesla V100S PCIe 32GB Module are supported.

For a full list of supported accelerators, refer to section "Core Options > Accelerators" on pages 66-67, and for a full list of HPE Computation and Graphics Accelerators, refer to section "Core Options > HPE Computation and Graphics Accelerators" on pages 68-70 of the QuickSpecs.

Re: A100/H100/V100 GPU on DL380

Hi @Dutchew535

I had the same question the other day.
I think the A100 was taken out of support for the following reason.
The DL380 Gen10 only supports PCIe Gen3.
The A100 was originally produced in PCIe Gen3.
Now the A100 are only available / in production with PCIe Gen4 interface as far as I know.
And the DL380 Gen10 that can support PCIe Gen4 are only the DL380 Gen10+.
This is probably why they have been removed from the list.

However, NVIDIA probably originally tested and released both versions of the A100 (40GB/80Gb).
https://docscontent.nvidia.com/dita/00000186-f233-d445-afc6-fa7767080000/ngc/ngc-deploy-on-premises/pdf/nvidia-certified-systems.pdf

I think if you are explicitly looking for an A100 with PCI3 Gen3 interface for the DL380 Gen10, then there should be no problem with operation.

What might be a problem, I'm not sure, is that the 40GB version of the A100 draws 250W of power and the 80GB version draws 300W of power.
You would have to check the documentation again to see how much wattage a single GPU is allowed to draw.
