Array Rebuilding on p822
Hello. I have HP P822 RAID controller. It's installed in a home lab server with a consumer-grade x99 motherboard. A RAID 5 array is configured on the controller. The whole thing works under Windows 11. Smart Storage Administrator is installed on Windows. I recently received an error that one drive is unavailable. After fixing the error, I still get a warning that the logical drive is ready to be rebuilt. How do I initiate the rebuild? I can't find an option to initiate the rebuild from within Windows.

Re: Array Rebuilding on p822
Hi,
Run this SSA CLI command to force the rebuild: ssacli ctrl slot=X array Y ld Z modify rebuild=forced (replacing X, Y and Z). If this doesn’t work, ensure the repaired drive is properly seated and compatible, also update the P822 firmware via HPE’s Service Pack for ProLiant.
Important: Back up critical data before starting, as a degraded RAID 5 is vulnerable. Monitor progress in SSA GUI or CLI with ssacli ctrl slot=X array A show.
Good luck!

Re: Array Rebuilding on p822
Hi @BigggieN
1. Verified that the replacement drive reports identical capacity / type / sector size.
2. Ensured the drive is visible as “available / OK / unassigned” in SSA / controller view.
3. Checked if ADR / hot spare activation is enabled (though I didn’t originally set a hot spare).
4. In SSA, I navigated to the controller → Logical Drives → looked for “Recover / Rebuild / Repair” menu but didn’t see it.
5. Consider using ssacli / hpssacli CLI commands (if supported for P822) to force “recover” or “repair” of the logical drive.
6. Plan to do a cold reboot / power cycle to force the controller to re-scan the drives.
7. Check for firmware updates on the P822 / controller / SSA and apply them.
8. Review logs for read errors / bad sectors that may block rebuild.
Thanks & Regards,
