Expand HDD raid 5

Hi,

I have 5 X 600GB Raid 5 + Spare at HPE DL380
4 HDD Running 1 HDD Spare.

I have new 3 HDD to expand raid 5.
If additional new 3 HDD will result loss of existing data on raid 5?

TQ

Re: Expand HDD raid 5

Hello,

Array expansion should not result in data loss. however it is recommend to have a valid backup before expansion for worst case scenario.

To expand the array you may refer to the below document & Smart Storage Administrator User guide

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=mmr_sf-EN_US000010855

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c03909334

Please note that the additional drives must have a capacity no less than that of the smallest drive in the array.

Thanks,

TAM

Re: Expand HDD raid 5

You can follow this steps to expand HDD raid 5 this way. First of all Right-click on the RAID 5 volume, select "Resize/Move".
Drag the RAID 5 right handle to add unallocated space into the volume and click "OK" to confirm. Click the "Execute Operation" and click "Apply". May be this will work for you.
