Hello,
Problem Description:
Applied the latest Gen10 SPP and after reboot the boot volumes were missing. Looking at the "Device Inventory" in iLO we discovered that the HPE Smart Array P408i-p showed firmware version as N/A and status as unknown. There are no health alerts and all the rest of the components show as green. We also tried to apply just the smart array firmware version 7.11. That upgrade failed. We also noticed that the Intel Ethernet Adapter in OCP Slot 10 shows unknown as well. We are not sure if that is a connected issue. We also have tried appling the SPP again and during the reboot the server seems to get stuck at the "Starting required devices. Please wait" screen for a longer than usual time.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and what is the resolution?
We have opened a support case.
Thanks,
Michael Sobers

Re: HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus Smart Array P408i-p status UNKNOWN after Firmware upgrade
Hello,
You might need to rollback to the previous version and check.
Try to power drain the server before downgrading the firmware.
Get it back to n-1 SPP to isolate the issue.
Also, as you have already logged a case with HPE support, i am sure they should provide you with the resolution after analysing the logs deeply.
Thanks,
TAM

SolutionThe issue has been resolved. The fix was to replace the P408i-p smart array. It seems that something went wrong while applying the firmware, causing the card to stop working. We swapped a card from another working server, and that worked. We then had HPE support order a replacement smart array.
