HPE ProLiant ML150 Gen9 server

Hello. I request help with solving my problem. I have an HPE ProLiant ML150 Gen9 server - Part Number: 780851-425. The spare part number for my motherboard is 806840-001. The original processor installed is Xeon CPU E5-2609 v3 @ 1.90GHz and I purchased a Xeon E5-2695 v4, but it is not working.

The following actions have been taken on the server:

BIOS P95 v2.92 and ILO 2.81 have been updated.
To update the (SPS) Firmware to version 3.1.3.21.8, the BIOS version had to be downgraded to P95 v2.00, only then was it possible to update the (SPS) Firmware.
My system information is as follows:

HP Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 330i Adapter 17.3.43
iLO 2.81 Jul 27 2022
Intelligent Platform Abstraction Data 25.01
Intelligent Provisioning N/A
Redundant System ROM P95 v2.00 (12/27/2015)
Server Platform Services (SPS) Firmware 3.1.3.21.8
System Programmable Logic Device Version 0x0B
System ROM P95 v2.92 (11/23/2021)

Why is the server not starting up and what else needs to be done to get it to start on my server?

Would you please provide more detailed information and direct me to a solution? If I may have missed the correct information while reading the server manual, please help me identify the missed information.

Re: HPE ProLiant ML150 Gen9 server

Hello,

This could possibly be because the new processor is a v4 processor and the system board with part number:

806840-001

supports only v3 processors.

806840-001 System I/O board (motherboard) - Supports Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 (Haswell) processors - Includes base pan assembly, alcohol pad, and thermal grease syringe - Processors must be the same spare part number

Thanks.

I work for HPE.

Re: HPE ProLiant ML150 Gen9 server

Hi everyone.
I'm in the same situation as David, we bought two v4 CPUs just to discover that the 806840-001 motherboard is only compatible with v3.
Just to clarify it further: there isn't any way to make this motherboard work with v4 CPUs, right?

Let me also say that his information was buried under HP spareparts but it's not highlighted on the compatible CPUs page. I think it should be easier to reference. This would have saved us a lot of time in troubleshooting and returning the incompatible CPUs.

Thanks,
Simone

Re: HPE ProLiant ML150 Gen9 server

Hey Simone,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to use v4 CPUs with the HPE ProLiant ML150 Gen9 server that has the 806840-001 motherboard. The compatibility of the motherboard with specific CPU models is determined by the chipset and BIOS of the motherboard, which are designed to work with specific generations of CPUs.

In this case, the 806840-001 motherboard is only compatible with v3 CPUs, and there is no way to make it work with v4 CPUs. It is important to carefully check the compatibility of the motherboard with the desired CPU model before making a purchase to avoid compatibility issues.

These are my opinions so use it at your own risk.

Re: HPE ProLiant ML150 Gen9 server

806840-001 can't support e5-2697 v3 cpu, I have bought one and it can't work in my 806840-001
