HPE SSD warranty sticker issue

We have pruchased some HPE SSD's froma  third party vendor. They say they got them from a OEM overstock buyback.

We are lloking to deploy these in a server, and we know they work fine, howrver they don't have the HPE Warranty label sticker on them like the rest of the drives. Firstly we cannot do a warranty check, and secondly are not aware how we can link the drives the server warranty etc. I have link a picture as an example one fo the drives.

Are these drives non replaceable by HPE?

Hello,

Can you rephrase your query?

The attached photo currently you using on server or you asking for replacement?

What the server model and generation?

Re: HPE SSD warranty sticker issue

Hello,

Sorry let me clarify.

We have pruchased these exact drives. We have 8 of them going in a HPE dl380 GEN10.

This dl380 GEN10 has 3 years of warranty / carepack.

These are HPE drives but they are missing the HPE warranty label /. secuiry sticker that comes with most drives?

What i am asking is, are these still valid / covered by HPE warranty as they have the OEM (manufactuer serial number) but not the HPE serial number that is usually on the drive HPE sticker.

Does that make sense?

Re: HPE SSD warranty sticker issue

These drives were purchased seperatley froma  3rd party vendor. It is not clear if they are a HPE partner.

I have never come across drives without the HPE secutriy sticker as this is what HPE usually uses to check warranty etc.

So are they covered if the drives themselves there is not an obviousy warranty? They are all new but just dont have as mentioed the HPE sticker is missing.

thanks

Re: HPE SSD warranty sticker issue

I am not sure HPE provides you replacement, most of the cases drives or server warranty related to your active support subscription.

1. Try to contact with 3rd party vendor for replacement.

2. Open a case with HPE support and provide your drive details.

Re: HPE SSD warranty sticker issue

Hello,

Drives without HPE stickers are sold from vendors claiming that these are from overstock or cancelled orders. These kind of orders still have their HPE warranty sticker on them. Since the drives get the digitally signed firmware (if you update the firmware) then they are genuine, so they are considered grey market.

Grey market drives are fully functional drives which are sold outside of HPE channels. It's in HPE's discretion on if they will honor warranty on them. I believe if the drives are failed within the first months (and the manufacture date is up to 2 years of the failure date) they might replace them, but if they ask for a photo of the drive and see the sticker missing they might ask for proof of purchase from an HPE authorised dealer (which you don't have).

I have several HPE drives without stickers on Gen10 drives with warranty. To be honest for the price you got them it would be better if you stocked 1 drive just in case you need a replacement, if a drive fails. Not one of them has failed for the last 2 years of operation so I didn't have the chance to check replacement from HPE. The drives are Mixed Use so they have very good endurance, but keep an eye on iLO's wear level on the SSDs periodically just to be safe.

Now, where they came from is another story. They might be from an HPE distributor reselling them on another distributor (not allowed since HPE distributors are allowed to sell only to end-clients), they can be from the manufacturer (Western Digital) making extra drives not given to HPE and sold outside from a WD employee, they can be stolen, they can be everything.

Sincerely,

Re: HPE SSD warranty sticker issue

In this case , every time if we buy any HPE products, first contact with
HPE Support then HPE forward to reseller or distributor, after that
reseller contact to end user.

Most important always keep spare, these processing takes time to complete.
