Hi Gary,

These alerts are captured from The iLO health monitoring status & are false caution messages.

Solution:

>ILO5 firmware 2.30 fixed the issue.

I am also with this problem in 3 HPE DL 380 Gen10 with ILO 2.55 and ILO 2.60 ( i i had upgraded from 2.55 to 2.60 to see if this issue goes away but no results). on a server I downgraded from ILO 2.60 to 2.48, and this error occurred once in about 24h... any help?

ILO5 - iLO health monitoring status of the device / adapter located ... not responsive

Hello,

I also got this Message "The iLO health monitoring status of the device / adapter ... is not responsive" on an DL380 Gen10 with iLO 2.55, BIOS 2.36, Intelligent Provisioning 3.46 running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.9, for four devices, all at once, at the same time & date.

Event Log said at 04/04/22, 10:17:

5037 The iLO health monitoring status of the device / adapter located in Slot 4 is not responsive.
5036 The iLO health monitoring status of the device / adapter located in Embedded Ethernet 05 is not responsive.
5035 The iLO health monitoring status of the device / adapter located in Slot 6 is not responsive.
5034 The iLO health monitoring status of the device / adapter located in Slot 1 is not responsive.

The server crashed once, five days before these events were logged, and we don't know if it has anything to do with it.

I updated BIOS and Firmware with SPP 2021-10, Intelligent Prov.  3.70, disabled MCTP followed by MCTP-Reset and iLO Reboot (so MCTP was enabled again in iLO-Devices/Discovery), and i hope that solved the issue.

To avoid the false caution messages, update to iLO 5 v2.30. As a workaround, if the system is functioning as expected, ignore the caution messages.

Re: ILO - Slot 255 is not responsive.

I have the same problem after updating to ilo 2.55.

Every day at this time, the fans are running with 100% for some seconds.
Customer is not happy about the noise.

Is there any solution now?

I am seeing this after upgrading to ilo 2.48 firmware - can't upgrade any higher due to the OneView/ilo firmware issue which is not yet fixed

Re: ILO - Slot 255 is not responsive.

Hi,

Glad I stumbled on this thread, thought I was missing something obvious. Every day at 13:45 EDT, our fans also ramp up for a few seconds before going down.

Event in log:

"The iLO health monitoring status of the device / adapter located in Slot 255 is not responsive"

Recommended Action: "Do one or more of the following: 1.Disable the MCTP and wait for 2 minutes. Enable the MCTP in iLO 2.Perform the iLO reset. 3.Perform the server reboot. If the issue still persists contact support"

We're on iLO 5, v2.55, ProLiant DL380 Gen10

I looked up what a MCTP was, how to disable it, followed the directions here:

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-a00102190en_us

But today (24 horus later), the fans ramped up again. I'll contact support per their recommendation and see what they say.

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: ILO - Slot 255 is not responsive.

I just upgraded from 2.63 to 2.65 and I'm getting this error again. I had it several months ago but resolved it. Now it's happening again.

Any solutions other than iLO firmware upgrade to 2.30 which clearly does not solve the issue?

Upgraded ML350 G10 to 2.72, random warnings about device in slot 255 being unresponsive are back.

Re: ILO - Slot 255 is not responsive.

I am also seeing these messages about Slot 255 on a DL380 G10 iLO running 2.72:

<hostname> iLO5 The iLO health monitoring status of the
device / adapter located in Slot 255 is not responsive. ACTION: Do one or
more of the following:#0121.Disable the MCTP and wait for 2 minutes. Enable
the MCTP in iLO#0122.Perform the iLO reset.#0123.Perform the server reboot.
If the issue still persists contact support

I was getting one a day until I rebooted the system after this months Microsoft patch release. I have not seen one since.

Re: ILO - Slot 255 is not responsive.

I have this issue every 15mn30s on a DL380 Gen10plus, with iLO5 v2.95.

And every time this event fires, the OS (Linux) experiences a temporary kernel freeze of all cores during ~800ms.

Please how could we investigate ? What device is on slot 255 ?

Re: ILO - Slot 255 is not responsive.

This has been sporadically occurring on servers I support for a couple of years now whilst working for 2 different companies - have HPE EVER sorted what is causing it - seems not if still prevelant now!

Re: ILO - Slot 255 is not responsive.

Hi Bob,

Yes, this is a serious worry for us, and because of this we're considering switching over to competitors for all our servers.

Indeed, while the issue could (arguably) be dismissed before as "false alarm - please ignore", the 800ms freeze of the OS is not something that can be tolerated in production.

This HPE customer advisory article (a00121346describes an Innovation Engine firmware update to solve the temporary kernel freeze of all cores, depending on HPE server platform.:  https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-a00121346en_us

Re: ILO - Slot 255 is not responsive.

Thanks, but the claims there are inaccurate:

(1) we have an Innovatin Engine version (1.0.0.22) well beyond the recommended upgrade (0.2.3.0)

(2) the frequency and gravity of the problem are higher: 800ms every 15 minutes, instead of 50ms every hour.

HI, the case is closed.  Are you still experiencing 800ms delay in kernel?

Re: ILO - Slot 255 is not responsive.

Hi,

Indeed, the fix was to upgrade the SPS firmware. It's been over a month now, no further occurrence. Good !
