Migrating raid10 array from HPE MicroServer Gen10+ v2 to HPE PL MicroServer Gen11

Hey there!

Is it possible to migrate my 4 HDD raid10 disk array from my old HPE MicroServer Gen10+ v2 to new HPE PL MicroServer Gen11 w/o losing data?

I created the array in native HPE tools inside FW/BiOS/UEFi, or other HP management SW, I didn't create it in Windows.

Please let me know,

With kind regards

Avenger

Re: Migrating raid10 array from HPE MicroServer Gen10+ v2 to HPE PL MicroServer Gen11

Greetings!

In the "Storage Controller" section of the server quickspecs for both servers you mentioned, Intel VROC is listed. However, one server supports Hybrid RAID, while the other supports software RAID.

HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus v2 https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a50004293enw

HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen11  https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a50007028enw

While both terms are related to Intel's "Virtual RAID on CPU" (VROC) technology, the key difference is that "Intel VROC SATA Software RAID" refers to a purely software-based RAID solution utilizing the CPU to manage the RAID array, while "Intel VROC SATA Hybrid RAID controller" signifies a hybrid approach where the RAID functions are handled partly by dedicated hardware features within the CPU (Intel Volume Management Device - VMD) alongside software calculations, offering potentially better performance compared to a purely software-based RAID.

Since I have not encountered any cases of migrating drives between these controllers, my suggestion would be to take a backup, then delete and recreate the RAID.

Re: Query: Migrating raid10 array from HPE MicroServer Gen10+ v2 to HPE PL MicroServer Gen

Hey there mate! I wasn't yet, since I didn't have a time for such a complicated migration. I have 4x18TB HDD in raid one zero inside the gen10 and I have nowhere to offload 36TB of data for the temporary storage place. So I kind of gave up for now. I'll update this thread in the future for sure. Can we leave it open or should I mark it as done and r e-open it in the future?

Hi my friend, In general yes I guess you can leave the thread now and you can update the result in  future(I mean when you tried) if that time it's solved share the result and mark it.

If not- you should start the new thread. That being said for my one of old post.

Good luck !
