ML350 Gen9 and 2687w v4 160w CPU
Hello HP Community,
I'm considering using an Intel Xeon E5-2687W v4 processor in my HP ProLiant ML350 Gen9 server. I understand that the ML350 Gen9 supports the E5-2600 v4 family, but the 2687W v4 has a 160W TDP.
Has anyone successfully implemented this CPU in their ML350 Gen9 system? I'm particularly interested in any experiences regarding thermal performance and stability.
I have 3.30 and 3.40 Firmware available.
Thank you for your insights.

Hello,
We understand that you're looking to install the Intel Xeon E5-2687W v4 processor in your HP ProLiant ML350 Gen9 server. After reviewing the QuickSpecs for the HPE ProLiant ML350 Generation 9, we found that this processor model is not supported. Please refer to page 5 of the QuickSpecs for more details.

Re: ML350 Gen9 and 2687w v4 160w CPU
Hello,
Thank you for your prompt response and for diligently checking the HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen9 QuickSpecs regarding compatibility with the Intel Xeon E5-2687W v4 processor. I acknowledge the information provided, specifically that this CPU is not listed as supported on page 5 of the document (c04346270).
I appreciate you clarifying HPE's official stance based on the documentation. However, I wanted to share an observation from community discussions or other sources. For instance, I've encountered reports suggesting that the Intel Xeon E5-2696 v4, which might face similar official compatibility questions with the DL380 Gen9, has apparently been used successfully in that platform by some users and me.
While I understand that official documentation reflects rigorously tested and supported configurations, these anecdotal cases suggest that the absolute technical limitations might sometimes differ slightly. Perhaps certain factors allow functionality even if not formally validated or recommended by HPE (maybe due to factors like specific firmware versions, cooling configurations, or power supply headroom).
Therefore, while I take the official guidance seriously, these experiences lead me to believe that sometimes practical experimentation is the only way to definitively determine if a specific, undocumented hardware combination will function.
Thank you again for providing the official reference material. It is valuable context.
