ProLiant ML350p, Smart Array P420i, disk replacement
Hi,
I have an old running ProLiant ML350p Gen8 with 3 disks in a raid 5 array. Now I have a faulty one, wich need replacement. The problem, those disks are hard to find, especialy with the right firmware.
My question is, do I need the same firmware for the replacement disk? Actually, the 3 disks of the array are HPD5 version. I have found some disks with higher version, like 7 or 9.
Is it something to worry about or any firmware will do?
Disk info:
SAS 600.1 Go
HP EG0600FCVBK
HPD5
6 Gbits/s, PHY 2
Best regards.
Albi

Replace the bad disk, wait for the rebuild finish, then care about the firmware.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: ProLiant ML350p, Smart Array P420i, disk replacement
OK, so what you are saying is, if I add a v9 firmware disk into an array of v5 firmware disk, it will work?
My main concerne is, I'm worried of a bad issue, that will screw everything up, because a the firmware difference.
Another concern, the system can refuse to built, simply because the firmware difference... leaving me with a useless disk.
Yet, I still have to spend monney to buy a disk!

Re: ProLiant ML350p, Smart Array P420i, disk replacement
Just read the spare part number from the disk, get a replacement and replace. After the rebuild has finished, update all the drives.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
