SPP for DL380 Gen9

Hello,

I have Dl380 Gen 9 server I want to patch.

I downloaded latest SPP 2020.03 and when I run it it shows me a message: Warning - The selected Firmware Baseline is not supported for the given server. It is not recommended to continue with the updates using this baseline. Please select a different supported baseline for this server.
To proceed with the updates using this baseline at your own risk, select Ignore Warnings option.

On this link I found out that there is diferent SPP for Gen8 servers but mine is Gen9

https://community.hpe.com/t5/proliant-servers-ml-dl-sl/proliant-service-pack-error/td-p/7061201#.XtjbiudS-Uk

I read somewhere that Gen 9 and Gen 10 servers use same SPP version but there might be some changes I don`t know about.

Can you help me?

Re: SPP for DL380 Gen9

Hello Karabaja996,

Thank you for posting your query.

We have two different SPP from March 2020 available on our Website.

I am not sure which one is used on the DL380 Gen9 server.

One SPP is specifically for Gen10 -  "Gen10 Service Pack for ProLiant 2020.03.0"

Here is the Latest SPP for DL380 Gen9 Server - "Service Pack for ProLiant 2020.03.0"

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_8ccab9e4b99047138c2e608f97#tab-history

Please find the steps below to find the correct SPP or any Firmware/Driver for a particular Server -

1. Go to HPE Support Website - https://support.hpe.com/

2. Enter the Product Name Like DL380 Gen9 in this case and select the Exact Model.

3. This will take you to the Driver and Software page of the Product/Model.

4. Search for Service pack for ProLiant.

Only compatible Firmware and Drivers for the product will be displayed on this page.

Please reply back in case if you have any concern or query.

Thank you

Re: SPP for DL380 Gen9

Since end of 2019 there are 2 versions.

One for Gen10 only:

https://techlibrary.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/products/service_pack/spp/index.aspx

one for Gen9 and Gen10:

https://techlibrary.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/products/service_pack/spp/index.aspx?version=2020.03.0

In the past there was a contract required to donwload the SPP, this is no longer valid for Gen10.

Hence you need a contract for Gen9, but only a login passport for Gen10.

The only difference is the Gen10 only has no Gen9 BIOS updates.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: SPP for DL380 Gen9

Thank you Tech_Aniket you are a saver.

However, since there is diference i think it would have been much clearer if they had just called them say:

"Gen10 Service Pack for ProLiant 2020.03.0" and

"Gen9 Service Pack for ProLiant 2020.03.0"

best regards

Tahnk you Torsten for reply.

I think it is a good thing they removed the need for the contract.

Hello Karabaja996,

Thank you for the feedback.

Also in future you can use the steps shared earlier to find the correct Firmware and Driver for a Particular Server Model.

Thank you.

To be honest I was able to download the SPP for Gen9 (and the 7 GBytes file had filename equal to P26940_001_spp-2020.03.0-SPP2020030.2020_0319.22.iso) without having any particular active contract...don't ask me how I was able because I really don't know/remember (If I remember correctly...after reading your post...I tried to download the SPP for Gen10 and I was able to download it...then I tried to found the SPP for Gen9 and, with my surprise, I was able to download it too without any issue). Was mine a "lucky strike"?
