Using 6G SAS drives on a 12G Server
Hi we have traditionally booted VSphere from SD media, but it is clear there is no future in this. For future purchases we will use the HPE NS204i-p OS Boot Device ( Gen10 / VSphere 6.7 7.0 only ). But for existing servers we need to find an alternative. These servers are a mix of DL360 Gen9 and Gen10 most have Smart Array cards and most have available disk slots. I also have a large number of 200GB HPE SSD available - but they are 6G - most likely out of Gen8 servers. Whereas the Gen9 and Gen10 servers are 12G. Will the 6G SSD work and are they supported in this configuration? I do not care that they may run at 6G speeds.

Re: Using 6G SAS drives on a 12G Server
SAS is generally up and downwards compatible. The question always is: Is the configuration supported. Also that is mainly dependend on support contracts. If you don't have any contract, you can test if it works and use it anyways.
With contract of course HPE probably refuses to help or replace non-fitting parts.
You can always google for your server model and search for compatible drives in the manuals. Did that recently for our MSA2040 and it worked perfectly.
