Z555 Media Center Strange Power-Up
I wasn't sure where to post this question. I have an HP Z555 Digital Video Recorder running Microsoft Media Center. Every day the unit powers on at 11:25AM for 1/2 hour then goes back into stand-by mode. I have nothing scheduled to record at that time and can't figure out why the unit powers up at that time. My electric bill is already too high and I'm looking at everything to try to reduce it.

Re: Z555 Media Center Strange Power-Up
John,
You might be better served posting this in the Microsoft forum.
However, your Z555 problem isn't unique as others have reported on this issue. Others have reported that the system "wakes up" to check for Windows updates, initiates virus scanning, is awakened by network traffic, etc. Does the BIOS have some form of "Wake on Network access" or similar setting enabled? I've not yet seen any mention of a workaround for this if this is indeed a bug or just a quirk of your system/network setup.

Re: Z555 Media Center Strange Power-Up
There is a gigabit Ethernet and wireless 802.11G interface in the machine. I've looked at the BIOS settings and did not find WOL capabilities and I've tried sending WOL packets to it to wake it up with no response. The Norton Internet Security / Anti Virus is expired on it so I don't know if it's checking that or for Windows MC updates. I'll go to Microsoft's forums to inquire there. Thanks for the reply.
