Install SDN Controller 2.5 on Ubuntu 12.04 on a VM on MS Hyper-V

Dears,

      I have a customer who provide for me a VM for ubuntu 12.04 , but it is running on Hyper-V , not KVM or ESXi.

Is it possible to run SDN over Hyper-V ubuntu VM ?

Hi Wael,

I believe it is entirely possible. I see no reason why you could not run the HP Virtual Application Networks (VAN) SDN Controller  on Ubuntu 12.04.

I understand that this is for a customer and you want everything to go smooth.

  Thanks for your reply.

I am concerning about HP support after installation, as per installation guide SDN controller only can run on VM over KVM or ESXi.

Your reply showed me it is possible technically on Hyper-V, but i nned to make sure customer will have normal HP support and it will not cause a support issue later on.

Dear Wael,

Thank you for contacting the HP SDN Forum. The HP SDN Controller Software Matrix does not include the MS Hypervisor as a supported platform at this moment. From page 7 of the software matrix:

1.2.1.1 Software you must install before you begin the controller installation process

• Operating system: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit Server

• Supported hypervisors (if operating system is run on a virtual machine):

◦ KVM Version 2.4.5-1 and greater

◦ ESXi Versions 5.0.0 and greater
