4mm tape drive eating tapes
I had a 35470A. Recently I removed atape that had been sitting in it for a while. A small spring came out kind of stuck in the tape cassette. The next tape I put in would not wind, and gotten mangled pretty badly (eaten) when I tried to eject it. When I was looking for the spring, I accidentally stepped on it. Can this drive be fixed. I have a 34580A as well, but I have two switch it back and forth between two machines.
Thanks,
Bruce

Re: 4mm tape drive eating tapes
Bruce, HP does not do repairs on tape drives so your only option would be to do a google search on "tape drives" and you will find numerous companies that do repair them. The downside is, this is a very old unit and probably not worth fixing.

Re: 4mm tape drive eating tapes
I guess I just get attached to something that has worked reliably for a long time. I've got a Linux server that has'nt crashed since installed it about 4 years ago. I've had a much newer, much faster,Windows machine from Dell that crashed daily.
I also want to make sure that any new drive is going to be compatible with my 35480A.
