Re: about HP StorageWorks 1/8 Tape Autoloader
Hope I understood well.
Set up your autoloader to use sequential mode.
I read from Autoloader user guide:
********************************************
Sequential mode is used when the backup software is NOT robotics-aware or was
designed for standalone drives only. Sequential Mode is useful when a software
application is not available. In Sequential mode, the autoloader automatically
loads and unloads tapes from the drive. The operator determines the first tape to
load by loading the desired tape into the tape drive using the autoloader front
panel
********************************************
If you want to make your autoloader use new media after having filled one, the best way in my opinion is to use a piece of backup software.
You have a wide variety of vendor and product. Firstly I mention HP Data Protector, because it comes from the same brand of your autoloader and then because is reliable and cheaper than competitors.
There's also Veritas Backup Exec or netbackup. Legato networker is another choice, and CA Brighstore Arcserve is another one.
Hope it helps
