BOT Write-protected Tape SDLT
I have an HPUX 11.30 Itanium server with a single HP StorageWorks tape Drive.
The device is claimed:
ape 0 0/6/1/0.6.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP SDLT600
/dev/rmt/0m /dev/rmt/0mnb /dev/rmt/c2t6d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/0mb /dev/rmt/c2t6d0BEST /dev/rmt/c2t6d0BESTnb
/dev/rmt/0mn /dev/rmt/c2t6d0BESTb
I insert a tape that IS NOT write protected by the sliding tab on the tape container. When I go to write to the tape or check it's status I get:
mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn status
Drive: HP SDLT600
Format:
Status: [45114986] BOT write-protected online compression immediate-report-mode
File: 0
Block: 0
I cannot get ANY tapes to show NOT write protected. The orange tab is NOT showing.
All these tapes were used within a DataProtector environment with no problem (using a Quantum p7000 tape library).
Any suggestions as to how to get these tapes to be read/write?

Any suggestions as to how to get these tapes to be read/write?
According to the Quantum specs:
http://downloads.quantum.com/p4000-p7000/6434003v4r0.pdf
The P7000 supports SDLT and LTO media, maybe a dumb question here but *which* tapes are loaded into the SDLT600?
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF31a/12169-304612-3446235-3446235-3446235-453900.html#q3
What read-write interchange capabilities does the HP StorageWorks SDLT 600 Tape Drive have?
A3. The SDLT 600 has BRC with SDLT 320, SDLT 220 and DLT VS160 media.
Does it work with any supported media type that was not used in the P7000?
Rgds,

Re: BOT Write-protected Tape SDLT
NOTE: The issue has nothing to do with the Quantum p7000, that is on a different system being shutdown. The tape drive on the system having problems is a single HP StorageWorks 600SDLT drive.
Tapes CAN be read from and written to,but only within Data Protector but NOT from a command line shell (korn shell).
I thought any SDLT tape could be read from or written to from the korn shell using appropriate commands.
The problem arose when attempting to execute a make_tape_recovery:
make_tape_recovery -A -a /dev/rmt/0mn
returns cannot write to tape error, or similar language.
