C1533A Tape Transport Adjustment...

i recieved a hp c1533a dat drive that would not read a tape, and found that the tape transports were turned completely down to the beginning. does anyone know of the approx. adjustment for the left and right transports without having to hook it up to an occiloscope? it would be very helpful if i at least had an idea of how many turns each one should be set to. thank you very much.
