I need Some information on this tape drive, specifically whether it is DDS-1,2, or 3, and any other information would be helpful as well.

It's a DDS2 tape drive (can only use 60 or 90m tape on it), that much I know. I couldn't find any online specs on that drive.

Hello,

That drive is a DDS1, not DDS2 as Mr. Chan suggested. DDS2 can have 120 meter tapes as well, whereas DDS1s cannot.

You can only read DDS1 tapes with this drive (60 and 90 meter tapes). Maximum data is 2 Gb native (4 Gb compressed if we assume 2:1 compression) when using 90 meter tapes. Transfer rate is 187Kb/s.

ok, i also have a C1503-69201. when i use it to backup i can restore with either drive, but when i use the C1536 to backup, i can only restore with the C1536. the C1503 won't read the tapes. Any thoughts on this?

C1503 (probably the first generation DDS drive)does not support hardware compression whereas C1536 does. That could be the reason why tape written by C1536 cannot be read by C1503, assuming you're using the media that both drives support.
