C5648A (1557A) issues with ArcServe2000
O/S is WinXP SP1. SCSI card is an Advansys ABP915 adapter.
I am using the latest available firmware (U812/HP)
Issue 2 is that when using NTBackup the device works OK but writing to a specific tape seems to be a bit of a lottery. So to try and get some more control over things I loaded ArcServe 2000 (SP4) and can do just about anything with the tape drive except do a backup.
The job starts and after formatting the desired tape I get an ArcServe error E3855 (E3855 Unable to position media. (MEDIA=BART Tape 3, EC=CONTROLLER FAILURE or HARDWARE ERROR) . . . and the job fails.
Does anybody have any ideas on this ??
Thanks in advance . . .

Re: C5648A (1557A) issues with ArcServe2000
first of all try testing drive with HP LTT http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html , generate support ticket to understand if there are any hardware problems. Next is to make sure that removable storage manager is stopped and arcserve drivers are loaded. And the next to try HP recommended HBA http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50063.html

Re: C5648A (1557A) issues with ArcServe2000
I have just ent a support ticket to *wherever* and regret that I can't send it to you, hiowever I can confirm that the Removable Storage service is stopped! and is on manual.
Seems to me that the SCSI card is at fault
Will try another one.
Regards

Re: C5648A (1557A) issues with ArcServe2000
Module :Task Engines
Reason :Astask was unable to position to the desired session on the media
Action : Check the error code
----------------------------------------
Same problem here, only the nice part is that we run 2 diffrent backup jobs on the same machine to two different Tapedrives (Compaq / HP AIT 2 50gb/100gb. The Full backup job is completed succesfully, the second fails with error 3855 :S
The drives are the same type and same drivers. and all that has been changed in the jobs where the schadule, it might have been that in my case the two jobs where overleapsing causing this error. I will try to reschadule and see if this changes anything..
ps.ps.. The failing job is the starting job in the backup session, the second backup job jumps in one hour after the other.. I have reschaduled this time with a gab of 3 hours to see if changes anything ;)
anyways also posted a ticket at CA support, will post their awnser here might help :)
good luck,
