C5687A & RISC6000 AIX 4.3.3.0
I am trying to install an external SureStore DAT40 (C5687A) tape drive to an RISC6000 43P-7043 with OS level 4.3.3.0 (AIX).
I double checked to be sure there are NO SCSI ID conflict (I used #7). I am daisy chaining the tape drive to the back of an external hard drive.
I get a "BUS Error" when I attach the drive and when trying to reboot, the system just cycles through rebooting over and over again. The system works fine when I detach the tape drive.
The dip switches on the tape drive are set: ON --> 1,2,4,5,6,7,8 OFF --> 3
I am not sure if this is the correct setting. I can not locate the instruction manual and the English version is no longer available on HP's web site.
Has anyone installed this tape drive on to a RISC6000? Or, can anyone verify the dip switch settings?
Thanks,
Jack

The DIP switch settings are standard and are correct. May I suggest you try another SCSI address, something in the back of my mind says that address 7 is reserved for the adapter, I might be wrong but it is worth a try.

Hello Jack,
you might check the following document. It shows how to set the SCSI address with the jumpers in the back, you might also try to use the different configuration switch setting explain there:

further information is also here available:
