cannot restore compress data from backup with my DAT24

I cannot restore data to my new hard drive.My old one die. When I did the back up I use compression but now that I'm trying to restore the data to the new hard drive it doesn't work,(I mean, it seems like it's doing a backup but nothing happen) I see the tape, I see the Folders and I see the files in the tape, I check them so I can back them up, but just hangs there. I'm using W2K Proffessional. I will appreciate any help, thanks. Mario
