Col. 14Gb Initializing forever
I've got an external Colorado 14Gb tape backup. Whenever I try to do a backup it just gets to the point where it says initializing media and it stays there forever. I've tried this on media that previously worked and brand new tapes. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Col. 14Gb Initializing forever
I guess this is a long shot as your message was posted a year ago but I have just posted a similar message as I am by the sounds of it having an identical problem. Before I invest a lot of time etc in this, I was hoping to get some suggestions...what did you find out regarding your problem? Thanks Mark hiconsultants@aol.com

Re: Col. 14Gb Initializing forever
try this....
With your drive in an idle state, insert a tape into the drive... listen, you should hear the tape go back and forth. You should hear 7 distinct movements, this should take exactly 18 seconds. If this is not the case, your drive is probably bad. Before giving up, you can also try upgrading the firmware and changing the cable. You can try new media but you said you've already done that.
Good Luck
Joey
