Colorado 8 GB Damaged area detected

Hi,
I'm new at this, but here goes:
I have an 8 GB internal Colorado drive, on a NT4.0 workstation. Everything seems to be installed correctly, but I get this message at the start of a backup: "A defective or damaged area was detected on the media (0A-03-23-01-1500)". The tape is brand new. What's going on? Anybody know?
