Colorado 8Gb Travan external lockup

I have installed the external colorado 8GB drive via the parallel port connection. My 2000pro system boots Ok and I can see the drive Ok. When I insert a tape into the drive and ask the HP colorado backupII v9.1 software to do anything with the tape, the whole system locks up tight. A hard reboot is necessary. There are no indications in the event viewer that point to anything wrong. I have tried to change the PIO mode on the IDE controller to 0 and have also tried to disable the Ultra DMA on same. No change.

Robert, changing PIO modes would have no effect on an external tape drive nor would disabling ultra DMA. 2 things. Version 9.1 was not very friendly to win 2k. it was designed for win Me. Second, make sure your parallel port is set to EPP or something bi-directional with an address of 0378. Download version 9.0 from here

Re: Colorado 8Gb Travan external lockup

Thanks for the reply. I uninstalled the 9.1 software and reinstalled 9.0 I also made sure that I had the parallel port set correctly but it didn't make any difference. The system still locks when I try to do anything at all with the tape. I have tried several different tapes. The dialog box will start to update the number of seconds that have elapsed while reading the tape. When it gets to 8 sec. It stops reading. Ocasionally I can make a few keystrokes but ultimatly everything stops.
