DAT 24i error in Unix SCO Openserver 5.0.5

Hi, I'm not proficient in UNIX and I have tried everything. Can anyone tell me what a "%stp-0" error means? When I use a tape status command it responds saying the tape is OK. However, when I tray to access the tape I get this message.
