dat 72 backward compatibility
I just bought a DAT72 USB external drive. I thought it was reasonable to expect this 4mm dat to read the old cartridges from my previous 4mm dat drive. Isn't there a way to read these on the new drive?

Re: dat 72 backward compatibility
It would be simpler to answer if you would be more specific on media and drive types.
However from hp site:
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/dat72/index.html
Says that DAT72 drive reads and writes also dds4 and dds3 tapes.
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/dat72/qa.html#3
Says that only media with dds logos is compatible and dat media will be rejected.
