DAT24 and Windows Backup

DAT24 and Windows Backup

I have a DAT24 external on a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine.
I can not use the Tapeware (6.2) software that came with it because it is not compatible with XP, so I am trying to use Windows backup.
If I create a backup job and run it manually, it works fine.
However, it will not work if scheduled.
What happens is that Task Scheduler reports an exit code of 0x0 indicating the task was completed, but nothing seems to happen.
No tape activity at all.
If I then try to open Windows Backup, it does not appear on the screen. Task manager shows 100% cpu usage by backup, but nothing happens. I must reboot in order to get access to Backup again.
The log reports
'The requested media failed to mount. The operation was aborted.'
The drive passes all tests in HP Library & Tape Tools. There was media in the drive and it works fine if I run manually.
Can anyone suggest a solution?

TIA

Re: DAT24 and Windows Backup

Hi Alponse,
looks like a problem with the tape.
xp notice, that the tape was used for a manual backup. So try to use a new formatted tape for the scheduled backup task.

Re: DAT24 and Windows Backup

Thanks for the suggestion.
I have found the MS KB article at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314844 helpful.
Following it does work for jobs that fit on one tape. However it does not fully explain how to handle (tape naming) jobs that require multiple tapes and those that don't use the same tapes each week - e.g. tape rotation.
Can anyone clarify that?

TIA
