DAT72 USB Internal very slow
I have 2 seperate HP servers in 2 seperate locations bith with a HP DAT72 Internal USB tape drive. They both run SBS 2003. The backups are taking 12 to 13 hours for just 20GB of data on one and 10 hours for 35GB on the other. I replaced one with a DAT72 SCSI drive and it now backs up in about 3 to 4 hours. Anybody have any ideas??

Re: DAT72 USB Internal very slow
Hi Rodney
Please try the following
For Best Performance
Install the Windows drivers before plugging in the drive. HP recommends using the driver installer found on the CD included in the box or downloadable from the web at www.hp.com/go/tape . For more information on installing the drivers, refer to HP StorageWorks DAT USB Tape Drives - Installing Tape Drivers .
Use only a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed host port.
Use an USB 2.0 HBA if the server has no USB 2.0 ports.
USB 1.1 may limit the transfer rate.
Plug the drive directly into connectors on the server.
Avoid the use of hubs if possible. If a hub is used, it must be Hi-Speed USB 2.0 certified.
Use only Hi-Speed USB 2.0 certified cables. (Certified cables are guaranteed to be of proper overall length).
For Linux installation details, refer to the documentation on the DDS StorageWorks CD.
Also make sure the driver being used is on version 1.5.3.1 25 Aug 2005 from below link
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=501428&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=501423&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1005
you can also get LTT rev 4.1 at above link to test speed on drive to see if it is not software that slows you down.
Regards
Frogman
