DAT72 USB vanishs under Linux

Hej,
i have several StorageWorks DAT 72 running on HP servers (having SUSE Enterprise 10 installed). Lately I observed that, randomly, /dev/st0 dissapears. Switching the tape off and on again makes the reapear. Any ideas where this could come from?
