DAT72X6 Transfer rate
What transfer rate should I expect to the tape drive?
DAT72X6 External, DAT72 Data cartridges
P4 3GHz, Adaptec 29160 SCSI adapter
Graphite digital cable and terminator
BackupExe 9.1 running on XP SP2
I obtain 70Mb/min.
I expect more (up to 200)?
Is this realistic?

Re: DAT72X6 Transfer rate
I have almost the same setup and also get around 70Mb/min. This is when the DAT 72X6 actually works. I have read all references in the forums to problems associated with this drive e.g disable RSM, install Veritas drivers etc but it still seems to have a mind of it's own and frequently crashes with device I/O errors. I ran the latest tape driver update from Veritas, but it doesn't install any drivers. The only drivers that will install are HP. I'm just about ready to bin it and go back to the DAT72 single. The transfer rate is totally crap even when it's running & there is no support available apart from the useless kind like 'Install the latest drivers and firmware'. The latest firmware is from 2004...

Re: DAT72X6 Transfer rate
About 160 MB per minute is pretty normal. There are so many things that can affect backup speed. Suggest you download Library and Tape Tools dignaostic from here and run the sysperf and devperf tests. These will tell you what the system is capable of and what the drive is doing.
