Data Compression Problem

Have been running my colorado 20 GB internal drive successfully for several years now on my Windows ME operating system using HP Backup II, Ver. 9.1, Build LTO300B43A to do weekly full system backups of computer. In the past week I have lost the abilty to compress the data when backing up. Have checked the compression ration when the unit is running and it reading 1.00:1, which is not the norm.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem. There have been no changes made to the system or hardware in the past week.
