data protector express failed count 69%

Hi,

I'm running sbs 2003 server on ML350 g4 server with ultrium 232 tape backup. Data protector express finishes the job without error, but skipped 69M of the files.

DPE needs to backup the exchange files and sql server. I thought that dpE was able to backup open files?

Re: data protector express failed count 69%

Hello Dieter,

Data Protector Express can back up open files using VSS. However, that does not include Exchange or SQL data bases.

You either need to add pre/post execution commands to put Exchange sn SQL into backup mode or purchase the additional licenses that activate the agents that work with Exchange and SQL online. The product numbers are

BB123AA - Exchange Online Backup Agent
BB124AA - SQL Server Online Backup Agent

Is it enought to net stop the services before backup en start them after the backup?

Re: data protector express failed count 69%

I'm not an exchange or SQL expert so I'm not sure if it would work or not. I know that Exhcange has a backup mode which halts everything for backup.

Data Protector Express has the ability to add pre- and post-execution commands. If you can figure out the right commands they can be entered in the job properties page and then automatically executed as part of the job.
