Device reports error on request to write file mark to media. PLS HLP!

I am using the Backup program in WinXP Pro with a HP Colorado 5GB (internal) and I'm getting the following error below. Can you pls help, I've tried cleaning and different media. I really need to get a backup of my data:

PROBLEM:
Backup Status
Operation: Backup
Active backup destination: Travan
Media name: "Media created 7/13/2002 at 2:18 PM"

Backup (via shadow copy) of "C: "
Backup set #1 on media #1
Backup description: "Set created 7/13/2002 at 2:18 PM"

Error: The device reported an error on a request to write a file mark to media.
Error reported: Hardware failure.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
The operation was ended.

I am working on this issue right now. The things i am thinking of is bad tapes and/or erasing of data before backup. I will let you know.

I found out the HP Colorado 5GBi tape can't run using WinXP backup utility. I was told other XP compatible backup software works but can't recall vendor?

Re: Device reports error on request to write file mark to media. PLS HLP!

VERITAS Backup MyPC version 4.7 is the product that is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows XP.

The following list defines support for Backup MyPC version 4.7:

* HP Colorado 5Gb
* HP Colorado 8Gb
* HP Colorado 14Gb
* HP Colorado 20Gb
* HP Surestore T20
* HP Colorado Powertape 2400
* HP Colorado Powertape 4000
* HP Surestore T4
* HP Colorado T4000s

The minimum system requirement for the software to run is:

* 166 MHz Pentium?? or faster
* 32 MB RAM
* Minimum 10 MB hard disk space for installation

VERITAS Backup MyPC does not contain any hardware drivers and is reliant upon the native driver (QIC157) and the separate shuttleport driver that must be downloaded and installed separately.
At present VERITAS Backup MyPC does not work with external devices due to problems with the hardware/software/driver combination. This is currently under investigation.
