DLT 35/70 Drive requires frequent cleanings

Our compaq DLT 35/70 drive requires frequent cleanings - almost everytime we load a tape cartridge. This stays true even with a new cleaning cartridge and a new DLT cartridge.

After letting the cleaning cartridge pass thru, the led light to clean the drive goes off. This light usually comes back on after running the next back up job.

Appreciate any help anyone can offer.

I hate to be the one to tell you but this sounds like a classic case of DLT7000 worn out heads. Eventually the tape media wears away the head until it just can't read well enough and the result is constant clean indicators.
