DLT1e (C7483-60003) and TapeTools

I've converted a server with the DLT1e drive from NetWare 5.1 (and ARCserve) to Windows 2000 Server. I'm trying to use BackupExec 10 with it, and having trouble getting the drive "online." I tried running L&TT, but it says that the drive is "unsupported." Worse, the fine folks in support indicate that the drive is 'end of life' and no longer supported, so I may be dangling in the wind, here.

Hoping someone reading can give me a little help here; I'm guessing that a firmware update might solve my problem, but without L&TT support, that won't happen anytime soon. The SCSI inquiry currently comes back as "BNCHMARK DLT!" with firmware "3)1B".

Jim, LTT supports all of the HP drives so I am guessing you have one that came from somewhere else, probably benchmark itself.

The drive is an HP-branded unit, including the identification label on the bottom. The only reason I can come up with for L&TT to not recognize it is if a) the firmware is older than what's on record or b) there is something very wrong with the "brains" of the unit.

It's true that the drive has reached end of support life but LLT will still see it and be able to upgrade firmware. Was this working ok before you moved it? That is not a firmware string that I recognize so it is possible you have bent pints, terminator issues, scsi controller issues, etc

We didn't move anything until we started having problems: We replaced the old OS with a new one. However, it is probably worth the time to check connectivity, as I did move things around trying to get the model/SN, etc., off the thing.

Re: DLT1e (C7483-60003) and TapeTools

I didn't see any bent pins or whatever, but I did go ahead and move it to a different SCSI channel when I reconnected things, and it appeared differently/better than before. Now the thing shows up as "BNCHMARK DLT1" and had a firmware version V027, and was finally manageable by L&TT. The current version of the firmware was even older than the oldest version available on the web (V032), which meant I was definitely doing an update. The update did succeed, and L&TT seems to be happy with it for diagnostics. Now I'm off to get BENT to work on it...
