DLT4000 and 1/2 inch cartridges

Since the IRS no longer accepts DAT tapes, we want to send our report to them on a DLT tape. However the specs, according to the IRS say that the tape cartridge must be:
18 or 36 track parallel (and noted on the form)
be IBM 3480, 3490, 3490E, or AS400 compatible
chromium oxide particle based
37,871 or 75,742 CPI
may be compressed using EDRC or IDRC compression.

However none of the specs on the cartridge in the HP database mention any of these.
Anybody using the DLT data cartridge with the C5141F tapes successfully with the IRS? If I try to get an answer from the IRS, I have a seven hour wait on the phone. Thanks

Don,

Those aren't DLT drives. The 3480, 3490, 3490E looked very similar, but actually predated DLT by 8 to 10 years. I would ask the IRS if they don't accept something else.

The IRS does accept secure internet(ssl) transmission of data.

It the issue with that too much data?

The IRS does accept the data filed electronically. However it can only be sent via modem on a dial-up connection. So rather than writing to tape, I've got to write to a file, then ftp it to a PC that's got a modem, along with an internet connection. I didn't realize their systems were so old!
