Hi Folks,
Have an issue trying to update the firmware (latest 1493) on our EML-Eseries Robotic controller where it crashes after about 10% "robotics failed to initiate flash" am i over looking something ? is this a hardware issue?
I have attached a screen dump if anyone has any advice
Regards
Brian

Re: EML E-Series robotics controller Updating firmware issue
There are a couple of dependencies.
First try this.
telnet to the library itself and run
/>show firmware rev
(use cliadmin/clipwd to logon)
This will show the running versions.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: EML E-Series robotics controller Updating firmware issue
Since there are a lot of dependencies between the firmware and commandview tl, I prefer to update without CVTL.
However, there are steps needed, if the running versions are too old.
We will check, if these steps are needed for your library.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: EML E-Series robotics controller Updating firmware issue
Interface Manager firmware revision: I274 is current.
Tape Library firmware revision : 1493 (7.18.00) is current.
Did you remove the drive information?
The first IC needs still an update from 5963 to 5977.
This looks good so far. Is the library up and running?
Run
/>show lib status
For the update:
locate the file LTT_HP_E2400-4G_5977.frm.
use FTP and put this file onto the library (use "bin" mode).
From the telnet session check with
/>show firmware avail
and start the update
/> download interface 1
This takes some minutes, then check with
/>show firmware rev
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: EML E-Series robotics controller Updating firmware issue
Looks like the lib is still initializing? This can take 40 minutes or more (inventory takes that long).
Could you take a picture of the library back side?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: EML E-Series robotics controller Updating firmware issue
is there a card cage expansion module installed?
Do the tape drives have an ethernet connection?
Maybe you can take a picture of the whole library ...
And run
/> show library info
/>show library topology
please (consider to remove the serial# from the output, but not the WWN)
What generations of drives do you have (LTO-2, 3, etc)?
Looks like at least the first drive (top) is removed?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Hi Torsten , Sorry for the late reply busy once again..........over the weekend i managed to get the cards installed in another Library very similar to our one so we had 5 or 6 cards to upgrade and we have managed to get 3 out of 5 upgraded so far (still one to do) we are assuming the 2 are definite fails as they failed in our setup to, what you think? both fails just give a white screen and will not update ?...........so i would like to thank you and i am very grateful for all your help on this one again
Hope you had a good weekend

Re: EML E-Series robotics controller Updating firmware issue
Do you have this special
HP Serial Controller Cable 2m DB-9 to 3-pin
cable to access the IM and IC via serial?
I think it is
335628-001
http://partsurfer.hpe.com/ShowPhoto.aspx?partnumber=417819-001
Using serial you could check if the board can boot ...
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

SolutionCompare to the picture, it has a normal 9-pin at one end and a special small 3-pin at the other end.
Using this cable connect serial to the IC, then power on. Use 112500 baud.

Autobaud, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200 8 1 None XON/XOFF
