Error ref. 05-0E-23-01-0524

I use a HP Colorado 20GB with a C4435 data cartridge.

OS is Windows XP Pro and software is HP Colorado Backup II 9.0 (I installed the Windows 2000 Pro version because I could not find one for XP). Also installed TapeDiag for Windows 98, for the same reason.

The firmware version of the drive is 4.01, which I think it is the more recent one.

It is installed in the secondary IDE channel, the drive is set as master, and there is no other device in that same channel.

I can't work with the drive because I have a 05-0E-23-01-0524 error reference whenever I try to do anything.

That error is issued within both HP Colorado Backup II and TapeDiag.

What is the problem?

Any help appreciated.

Best regards.

That version of Colorado Backup does not work in XP nor is there a version specifically for XP. The drive was discontinued before XP came out. You should be able to use it in the native backup applet however, or you can go to www.stompinc.com and buy their BackupMyPC appplication for Windows XP. I suggest you download a trial version before you buy.

Thanks, Lewis.

What do you mean with "native backup applet"? The backup accessorie that comes with Windows XP? Because, if you do, I can't get the drive to work with it too. The message is "There is no free media available with the selected type." I chose type Travan.

Just installed CBII 9.1 on clean Win2K install. Same message when I try to do anything. I don't think it's XP.

I have had the same problem as you have experienced, and I gave up using the tape drive. Last week hovewer we had a tunderstorm destroying my PC. I bought a new one and tried to install the tape drive, but got exactly the sampe problem again. The system could not locate the tape.
To make a long story short I finally treied to wipe clean the mirror bulb and the light receiver(?) inside the drive enterence. (You have probably seen the window in the front of the tape?)
After doing this the drive worked with no problems. It might have been a coinsidence, but feel free to try if you like.
I'm using Windows XP Pro. and have not installed any drivers from HP.
The backup program is orligix "Backup MyPC" from Veritas Softvare Corp.
