Exchange backup slow
My backup runs at about 290MB/min until it hits the mailboxes on my exchange server then the rate goes right down to 50 mb/min. This is resulting in my backup taking a long long time to complete.
It used to be fine until my Exchange server crashed and had to be rebuilt now its really slow when its being backed up.
Any ideas?

Re: Exchange backup slow
Dear Tracey,
Looks like lots of small files which is a classic for slowing down tapes as the data is not delivered by the server to the drive fast enough and it stops and has to then reposition before it starts. Are the mailboxes now smaller.

Re: Exchange backup slow
Yes all the mailboxes are now a lot smaller as we forced people to clear out their mailboxes.

Re: Exchange backup slow
After you cleaned up mailboxes, did you run offline defragmentation to free up space inside database and rebuild indexes.
That might help.
